Great British Bake Off Challenge: Tarte Tatin Fail

If this was the actual Great British Bake Off I suspect I might have left this week. So tarte tatins are not my forte. I thought they'd be simple...oh how foolish of me. I have made two this week and both have failed.

Tarte #1 was a pear and brie tarte tatin. In my head I thought this was going to be the best dessert ever in the world because, let's face it, it had brie in it, and when has brie ever been bad? However, I think I may need to work on my caramel making skills, because whilst it looked good and the pastry came out fine it kind of tasted like an old shoe.

Now I'm a little embarrassed to admit this. Even if my baking has looked like an old shoe stepped on it, it has always tasted good so this was more disappointing.

Tarte #2 was a banana tarte tatin, as featured in the show on Tuesday. Surely this couldn't have failed right? Wrong! Another caramel disaster as it was too thick and wouldn't turn out the pan. Plus, that darn bitterness was there again.

I'll learn from this and attempt next week's challenge. I think that might be a tricky one too from the preview of the show, there were some pretty fancy looking desserts.

I'll leave you with one of my favourite quotes that I've been trying to remind myself of today.
