A Day in Manchester

It's a pic heavy post today but if you ever get the chance to visit these  two places I hope you will forgive me. Nick and I took a little day out to Manchester today. I took 2 days off work to make a 4 day weekend and I had some train vouchers from an online deal so we ended up getting the train for free - always a bonus.

Back in August we went to Sugar Junction on Tib Street for breakfast after a night out. Their eggs benedict is so good so we headed there this morning straight from the station. It's a lovely place that feels just like you're in someone's living room. I love those restaurants that feel like they've been set up in someone's home, where things don't quite match and everything is cosy.

Nick had eggs florentine.

After breakfast we had dessert...well, how often do you get to do that? I had a gluten/dairy free cherry and almond cake and Nick had a chocolate cookie ice cream sandwich.

After breakfast we had a wander round and went to see the new James Bond film (amazing by the way). The weather has turned cold so quickly and Manchester was no exception. There was a definite bite in the air today so I wrapped up warm.

After the film I dragged Nick to raid Fred Aldous. It's the absolute best art and craft store ever. I make a visit to the store everytime I go to Manchester. They sell pretty much anything you could need. I picked up some crafty birthday presents for my cousins and some extras to help with my food photos. Finally we went to Home Sweet Home on Edge Street. I heard about this place by accident on Twitter and as soon as I saw the menu online I was in love. It's so so good. Please go if you ever get the chance.

I had the New Yorker, which was pastrami, swiss cheese, pickle and cream cheese on a toasted bagel.

Nick had the goats cheese toastie with spinach, cranberry and bacon.

The service was brilliant and the restaurant itself was gorgeous. They have really pretty tea mugs...I need to find out if they sell them.

If you've been to either of these places, what else have you tried on the menu? I hope everyone is eating lots of excellent food this weekend.
