Foodie Penpals #1

This month was my first time taking part of the Foodie Penpals programme run by Carol Anne at This is Rock Salt. I absolutely love getting parcels in the post, especially surprise parcels of food, so there was no doubt in my mind that I was going to enjoy doing this.

I loved picking out everything for the box I was sending to Jennie who runs The Sharing Supper Club and it was hard not to buy two of everything so I could try things out myself. I received my box from Gabriele. It was so exciting getting my box from Germany and she sent over so many German Christmas goodies with a lovely card as well. Nick was pretty hungry when the box arrived so he had already broken into the roasted cashews before I could photograph everything together.

As it’s December tomorrow I’ve decided it’s acceptable to break into the baumkuchen and I’ve been sat at my desk with my breath smelling of rum most of the morning – the only way to make it to 5 o’clock.

We had made tentative plans to go to Berlin for Christmas this year but after New York and Vermont we decided to wait until next year, now I really wish we were going. Not to worry though because I’ll be having my fill of gluhwein at the Manchester Christmas Markets tomorrow, complete with mittens and earmuffs because apparently it’s going to be between 3 and -1 degrees…brrrrr.

I am a bit of a sucker for packaging and typography and I really liked these gluhwein sachets. They look really retro.

I would recommend trying out being a Foodie Penpal, even if just for a month, it’s a lot of fun and you get to know other bloggers. You don’t even have to be a blogger to take part. If you’re lucky you’ll get someone in Europe and be treated to European foods you’ve never tried before.
