Foodie Penpals #3

It's here again, another month has gone by and it's foodie penpal time. I really cannot get over how fast time seems to be going lately. Maybe it's been more since I started the blog because I'm always thinking to the next post but time is just flying past. The sun has been out this week, it's still a little chilly but I feel like Spring is coming already. I even bought daffodils yesterday and woke up this morning to find many had already bloomed and I just felt really excited about Spring. I'm feeling it's time to bring Mable (my bike) out of hibernation, I don't like to ride in the Winter, it's too cold and I'm bad enough walking on frost nevermind cycling. Hopefully it won't be too long before I'm driving though, I booked my theory test today. It should never have taken me this long to get round to driving but I'm excited to be able to add a new level of independence to my life.

Anyway, as I mentioned, it's foodie penpal time again. My penpal was Rachel in Merseyside and I was really pleased with the box I sent the last 2 I wanted to keep it for myself. From Rachel's e-mail she told me she liked spice and cheese and wouldn't mind something regional from where I live. So, I sent her a packet of crushed chillis, a little wax covered wensleydale and cranberry cheese and a pack of Staffordshire oatcakes. I also added some dark chocolate, I love putting bars of this in the parcels I send out because it always feels like a bit of a luxury item. I sent her a little jar of my ginger nut spread and some homemade brown sugar and cinnamon popcorn.

I received a brilliant box from Lisa. She sent me:
  • a great little silicon mini muffin tray (which I can't wait to try out)
  • a bag of marshmallows (perfect because the IT guys at work have been asking for more s'mores brownies for ages)
  • some fancy dark chocolate (see, I said it was great to receive dark chocolate in the mail)
  • 2x sachets of gingerbread porridge (I had not come across this flavour before and I can't wait to try it)
  • a tub of granola (this is going to be gorgeous with my morning yoghurt and banana)
  • and a great recipe for beetroot brownies, as soon as Lent is over I'm definitely making these.
I really love taking part in this scheme and it's great to get a chance to try things I wouldn't normally pick up when I'm shopping or out and about. If you want to sign up, head over to This Is Rock Salt for the UK version or The Lean Green Bean for the US version.
Just a note...
The lovely folks over at Gifted Penguin got in touch with me to offer all my readers 10% off any order on their website. Just enter the code 'CAKEHUNTER' at the checkout. They've got some really cute products like this glass carafe and this set of Orla Kiely mugs (I love anything by Orla Kiely). Payday has just arrived so I'm not safe near online shops as good as this!

Also, check back on Sunday as I have a great little giveaway to share with you!
